Habitat & structure

Beachfronts, piers, passes and open bays wherever glass minnows and menhaden ball up. A warm-season migrant that shows when water passes ~68°F and leaves with the first cold snaps.

Panama City & St. Andrew Bay — Piers and the pass, April through October.
Galveston Bay — Jetties and beachfront on green-water days.
Pamlico Sound & Outer Banks — Inlets and ocean piers all summer.
Chesapeake Bay (Annapolis & Lower Bay) — Lower bay, July–September.

Bright sun and clear water actually help — flash triggers strikes. Morning and evening see the biggest surface blitzes. Long casting distance beats finesse; add 40–50 lb fluoro or light wire against the teeth.
