Habitat & structure

Juveniles in seagrass and around inshore rock piles (St. Joseph Bay is famous for it); keeper fish on nearshore hard bottom and ledges in 20–60 ft. First run for the rocks — heavy leader or lose.

Shallow Lipped Crankbait/Jerkbait — Hard bait · spring / fall / winter. Deflect it off shell and rock — the wobble-and-bump triggers reaction strikes. Trolled versions take fall gags on ledges.
