Habitat & structure

Cruises the beach in spring migration, shadows rays and turtles, holds on buoys, wrecks, and channel markers. Chesapeake fish summer over lower-bay shoals.

Panama City & St. Andrew Bay — The historic spring sight-fishery off the beach, late March–May.
Port St. Joe & Cape San Blas — Fish rounding Cape San Blas on the migration.
Chesapeake Bay (Annapolis & Lower Bay) — Chumming and sight-casting lower-bay shoals, June–August.

Weather, light & cloud cover

A sight-fishing game: high sun (10am–3pm) and clean water are your friends for spotting fish. Dirty water after fronts kills the run for days. Keep a pitch rod rigged and ready — the shot lasts seconds.

Live Eel — Live bait · spring / summer / fall. Cobia can’t refuse them on the beach run; night eeling is the Chesapeake trophy striper program.
