Structure in open water: flooded timber, brush piles, submerged trees and marina shade. Suspends at a precise depth with the school — a foot off in either direction can mean no bites. Moves shallow to spawn in spring, then hangs deeper off the same cover the rest of the year.

Soft light is best — early, late and overcast days keep schools shallower and feeding. Bright sun drops them deeper into the timber shade, not out of reach, just deeper. Their bite is a gentle tick on the fall of the jig: watch the line, not the rod tip.
